Our favorite old lady is at it again and this time she is swallowing school supplies! This is a great book to read on your first week back at school with your students. They will have a great time making their own old lady and then feeding her the different objects to retell the story. We have included a colored version of the old lady and story pieces for teacher modeling, as well as a black and white version for students to create their own.
We have also included three journal responses to go along with the book. Children can respond to the story by answering the following questions: What was your favorite part of the story and why? What might the old lady swallow next and why? Why do you think the old lady swallowed some books?
Included in this pack are also two math activities. The first is matching a numeral to a set. Children will count the number of objects that are pictured and match them to the correct numeral. We used clip art to represent the story pieces to tie reading and math together.
In the second math activity, children will practice counting a set of objects and then writing the matching numeral. Writing numerals can be difficult for our young children, especially those that are starting school for the first time!
We hope your children enjoy coming back to school and feeding this little lady too! She is sure to be a hit in your classroom! Have a great week!
