Who doesn't love the ocean? The smells, the sights, the sounds...ahh....can you just see your toes in the sand? Well, we aren't quite there yet... still a couple more weeks of school left.
There are so many mysterious and beautiful things that live in the ocean and it makes for a very high interest theme. We have been learning about the ocean and ocean animals for the last two weeks and we have been having the best time. We have read many fun books, completed cute projects, and have learned about whales, sharks, sea turtles, etc.
Today we delved into the topic of food chains. What is a food chain? What animals make up a food chain? Are there many different food chains? Who better to help us out with all of these questions but Mrs. Frizzle!! That's right, our favorite science teacher took us on another one of her kooky adventures.
After watching the Magic School bus and reading a book about food chains, we made our own food chain that modeled one in the ocean. We started with strips of construction paper that were different lengths and colors and animal clipart.
We then linked the strips of paper together to make a chain. After the children colored and cut out their animals, they glued them on the links. The sun was on the smallest (yellow) link as the start of the food chain since life can not exist without the sun and then they added the other animals in order.
Final product!! We are so proud of our work! What will we get into tomorrow?? Hmmm...
We are so excited to have a new math center up on our blog!
It is called Sunny Sums and Differences! Check it out here:
In this center the children will add wonderful rays of light to the sun. The sun has a number in the middle that is a sum or a difference. The rays have number sentences on them for the children to match to the correct sun. It was rainy and yucky outside today, but inside our classroom, it was nothing but sunny fun!
