Snow Day and 100th Day!

Yesterday we had a surprise snow day! I didn't even realize it was suppose to snow and then my phone is ringing at 6AM with a robo-call saying, school is closed!! Wow!! So I look outside and there is hardly any snow on the ground, seems silly that we have off school. Well, apparently it was very, very icy out there and they didn't want to bring the buses in and even chance an accident of any kind. Completely understandable!! So, it was a surprise day home! :)
Kelly and I were burning up the email, messaging back and forth about our next TpT project. We did manage to get a new old lady up in the store just in time for Valentine's Day. We just love those little old ladies! This time she is swallowing a rose, lace, glitter, and a diamond. Wow!! Is there nothing this old lady won't eat?

The 100th day of school is right around the corner! What are some of your favorite activities that you do with your class? We are always looking for some fun and creative ideas! We have always had the children work on a 100th Day project at home. The idea is to make something using 100 objects. We give them ideas, but we don't tell them exactly what to do. We love to see creativity. Here are a couple examples from previous years:
Flower made from 100 white buttons. Very cute!

The outline of a T-Rex made from pasta. Very original!

100 piece puzzle! Hang ten Scooby!!

We also like to make this 100th day hat too! The children color and cut out the hat and then we put them on sentence strips and wear them!!

What do you do? We would love to hear all about it!! Enjoy your weekend everyone!

Random Thoughts

First I have to give a shout out and congratulations to my home team, the Baltimore Ravens!!!
We are going to the Super Bowl!! It was a hard fought season and well deserved. I am looking forward to watching the game February 3rd!! I wonder what the commercials will be like this year?

Second, I have to give a shout out to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. What a great man he was!
Most people I know believe that everyone should be treated fairly and treated with respect no matter what they look like, believe in, etc. Not everyone thinks this way though.
It is such a shame that we live in a world with so much hatred.
Do I get angry? Yes, I do. Do people get on my nerves sometimes? Ha, yes they do.
Am I mean to people? NO, I AM NOT!!
Having said that, I will say there is a lot of love in the world too! I see people doing wonderful things in the world: taking care of children, each other, the environment, themselves, etc. These are the people we want in our lives, the ones that have something nice to say and are willing to lend help when needed.

As Robert Fulghum said:
"We could learn a lot from crayons; some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, while others bright, some have weird names, but they have all learned to live together in the same box."

Third:
 Happy Inauguration Day Mr. President!!
Even if you didn't vote for him or don't believe in his policies and agendas, he is still our President. I am proud to be an American and love the country I live in.

Enjoy your Monday everyone!!
Remember:
"When you go out into the world, it is best to hold hands and stick together."

Winter Themed Centers

Kelly and I are so very excited to have finished our winter center pack!! We got it up in our store last week. We have included some literacy centers, writing centers, and some math centers. All together there are 12 activities. Check it out in our TpT store:
Our students have been trying them out over the last week and have given us some very enthusiastic thumbs up! We have been working on number sentences and number stories a lot lately and the children are really starting to grasp the concept. We made this adorable center to help reinforce these skills in a fun way. These snowman are feeling cold out in the snow without a warm hat on their head! So, the children will come to the rescue and find that perfect hat! Children will count the buttons on the snowmen to add the sets of colors and find the correct sum of all the buttons together. Then, they will find the hat with the correct number sentence and place it on each snowman's head. Now the snowmen are ready to face the cold winter days!
Another activity in the pack is Chilly Challenge Memory Game. All the cards have winter-themed words on them! Who doesn't enjoy a fun game of memory?
We have also included a favorite of all five year olds we know, Write the Room! Seriously, the love it!! I have some students who will sit on the carpet during center time while they are waiting for someone to finish their turn with the center!! Of course I say, please go to another center while you are waiting. Haha. Kids are funny!!
Thanks for checking us out!! Enjoy the weekend!

Fun Book!

One of my old students (in 1st grade now) came to my class today to read a book to my students. He read this book, Falling for Rapunzel. It was absolutely adorable and my students loved it!! I had never heard of it so I wanted to share it with you just in case you hadn't heard of it either. It made us all laugh and has lots of rhyming words too! Happy Thursday everyone! :)
